The ABINGDON HONOR GUARD was created to assist the members of the Abingdon American Legion, Post 381,  with respectful presentation of the Flag of the United States of America at City of Abingdon functions, and Abingdon High School sporting events!
 
Students wishing to participate in the ABINGDON HONOR GUARD (AHG) must:
 
*Be an Abingdon High School student in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade,
*Have at least a ‘C’ average (overall) in school,
*Have good standing within the rules of Abingdon C.U.S.D. 217
*Have GOOD standing within the community of the City of Abingdon.

 

 

 

Once selected, members must:

 

 *Maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 in school,

*Maintain good standing within the community of the City of Abingdon,

*Maintain good standing with the rules of Abingdon C.U.S.D. 217,

*Maintain GOOD STANDING with the Creed of the Abingdon Honor Guard.

 

CREED OF THE ABINGDON HONOR GUARD

“As a member of the Abingdon Honor Guard,

I understand that I AM a representative of myself,

my family, the Abingdon Honor Guard,

the students and faculty of Community Unit School District 217,

and the citizens of the City of Abingdon, Illinois,

and will ALWAYS uphold a high level of discipline, honor,

respect of others and community,

and scholastic achievement set before me that will resonate

as the standard of excellence to the people of my community,

and the people of other communities that visit!

I will ALWAYS uphold these standards as a member of the

Abingdon Honor Guard to the best of my ability, Twenty-Four hours a day,

Seven days a week, and will NEVER let my duty to the

 Abingdon Honor Guard become more important than the level of discipline,

respect of others, honor, and scholastic achievement

that are tools for me to be a productive member of

 my community - The City of Abingdon, Illinois, or any community

I become a member of in the future!"

ABINGDON HONOR GUARD
PERFORMANCE EVENTS

 

The ABINGDON HONOR GUARD will perform at the following events: (as scheduling permits)

 

  • Every Abingdon High School Varsity Football HOME game,

 

  • Every HOME OPENER for the Abingdon High School Boys Basketball team,

 

  • Every HOME OPENER for the Abingdon High School Girls Basketball team,

 

  • Every HOME OPENER for the Abingdon High School Girls Volleyball team,

 

  • Every HOME OPENER for the Abingdon High School Boys Baseball team,

 

  • Every HOME OPENER for the Abingdon Middle School Football team,

 

  • Every HOME OPENER for the Abingdon Middle School Baseball team,

 

  • Every special sports event hosted by Abingdon High School,

 

  • Every Homecoming parade,

 

  • When requested by the Community Unit School District - 217,

 

  • When requested by the City of Abingdon, Abingdon High School, and the American Legion – Post 381,

 

  • When requested by either Illinois National Guard units stationed in Galesburg, Illinois.

    Students that display good leadership qualities will hold the preceding position regardless of School grade!

    Assistant Sergeant of the Flag of the United States (MSG) - 1

    Illinois State Flag Bearer - 2

    Knox County Flag Bearer - 2

    POW Flag Bearer -2

    Rifleman - 4

    Hoist man -4

     

    Though we may not reach our membership goal, the AHG will adapt and continue with its mission!
